The WECAN Food Basket Society of Alberta provides families and individuals food security by giving them the opportunity to purchase nutritious food at an affordable price. We achieve that by doing the following:
1. Providing families and individuals with quality food at reduced prices.
2. Creating a network of community-based depots to provide easy access for our members.
3. Operating on the principles of co-operation, participation, and self-management.
4. Reaching out to families and individuals and helping them to access our program.
5. Ensuring that the administrative cost is kept to a minimum by operating through a model of simplicity and efficiency.
6. Promoting and supporting healthy eating by working with communities to increase their capacity to access nutritious, affordable foods.
7. Building social networks and providing opportunities to enhance knowledge of healthy eating habits.
