The Edmonton Chamber of Voluntary Organizations (ECVO) is a member-based non-profit organization serving voluntary sector organizations in Metro Edmonton by supporting the growth and development of their volunteer programs and services through resources, networking, and skill development opportunities. Members of ECVO represent a wide array of subsectors, missions, and mandates each working to improve quality of life in our communities.
The Edmonton Chamber of Voluntary Organizations (ECVO) works in a shared space alongside the Edmonton Seniors Coordinating Council (ESCC). The ESCC improves outcomes for older adults through systems-level planning. They bring people, information, and ideas together to build collaborative approaches to services, supports and circumstances affecting older adults.

THE OPPORTUNITY:
The Edmonton Chamber of Voluntary Organizations (ECVO) and the Edmonton Seniors Coordinating Council (ESCC) are jointly recruiting a strongly motivated and dynamic Bookkeeper to join their teams! The Bookkeeper will manage a wide range of bookkeeping tasks to optimize effectiveness and efficiency for both non-profit organizations. In this role, the Bookkeeper will apply their critical thinking and keen eye for detail to ensure bookkeeping functions are accurate and timely.
As a secondary function, the Bookkeeper will provide bookkeeping support for member organizations as part of ECVO’s Shared Services initiative. Bookkeeping Shared Services may vary from member organization to member organization but will support the capacity of the non-profit sector through this fee for service model.
The Bookkeeper will have a strong understanding of working within multiple organizations with similar timeframes and provide accurate financial management and key bookkeeping processes while exhibiting exceptional organizational and time management for each.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
ECVO and ESCC Bookkeeping – 60%
The bookkeeper will be responsible for flexing and arranging their time to meet the bookkeeping responsibilities for both organizations. Each organization requires approximately one and a half (1.5) days per week for their bookkeeping and accounting needs. The Bookkeeper will ensure accurate accounting through full cycle bookkeeping by completing the following activities:
- Accounts payable using check and EFT payment methods;
- Accounts receivables and timely bank deposits;
- Payroll, CRA submissions and annual T4 filing;
- Reconciling bank, credit card statements and online payment systems;
- Maintaining and acting as administrator for organizational credit card accounts;
- Tracking and monitoring intercompany invoicing;
- Monthly reporting including developing or updating reporting formats as required;
- Entering and updating budgets for reporting purposes as well as projecting budget forecasts;
- Year end accounting functions alongside appointed auditors and the Executive Director;
- Liaising with Board members, our financial institution, and employees to provide accurate financial information;
- Overseeing signing authority for the Board of Directors;
- Streamlining current processes for efficiency and continued accuracy; and
- Ensuring a welcoming atmosphere for visitors and guests;
- Maintain a clean and organized front desk area;
- Respond to guest and member inquiries via phone, in-person, and email; and
- Other duties assigned as required.
Bookkeeping Shared Services – 40%
This role supports the delivery of bookkeeping functions to ECVO member organizations through the shared services delivery model. This model involves working on a contracted basis with direction from member organizations and providing a range of services.
- Bookkeeping functions may include but not be limited to:
- Processing accounts payable and receivables;
- Administering payroll;
- Reconciling bank, credit card statements or online payment systems;
- Completing month end cyclical bookkeeping functions including monthly reporting;
- Providing advice and oversight for bookkeeping set up and functionality in other organizations;
- Creating budgets and budget forecasting for operational decision making;
- Developing meaningful financial reporting formats;
- Liaising with and communicate accounting/bookkeeping best practices for organizational leaders;
- Other bookkeeping functions as required.

To be successful in this role, our candidate will have received certification in Bookkeeping or Accounting (although an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered). Experience (3 years or more) in a similar role and background knowledge of Sage Accounting and Office 365 (Teams and SharePoint) is essential.

Salary: $52,000 – $60,000 annually, commensurate with experience
Hours of Work: Full-Time, Monday through Friday, 37.5 hours per week
